Attention to the DIYode Makers Club, Guelph

    Dear fellow Diyodeheads

This winter I have been helping with the flooding of the ice at Sunny Acres Park. I have discovered a problem with how the ice crew packs up the hoses at the end of the evening and I think this is a problem that DIYode could solve. After the ice has been flooded, the ice crew will drag each section of hose over the fence at the north end of the rink before coiling them into a storage locker. Lately the crew has gotten into the habit of using the lower limb of the large pine next to the bar-b-q. I am concerned that over time this will kill the tree’s limb. I have been asking the crew not to use the tree limb but people complain that using the fence is too difficult. This is true, it is easier to stand on a picnic table and toss the hose end over the limb. Yet the whole procedure, whether one uses the fence or the tree, is awkward and time consuming. I challenge the DIYode makers club to come up with a solution to this problem.
The fix could be quite simple. Some kind of improvised bearing or pulley that would mount onto the fence over the locker would improve things immensely. It could also make the coiling of the hoses easier as well. Please feel free to contact me regarding this matter.

Hi Diyodes! I’ve taken the liberty of adding your events to the Watcamp calendar: http://watcamp.com/calendar

Do your events have scheduled times, like the Friday Night Five Dollar Fixit or the Saturday workshops? Right now they look like all-day events on the Watcamp calendar.

    –Bob.

    Missed the Electronics Workshop.

I have an 8 year old who is bugging daddy to teach him to solder and wants to try and build a robot. I’m just looking you up and see that we missed the electronics workshop.

Could you contact me when you have another electronics workshop planned?

I’m going to e-mail your info to our school science teachers, in case they didn’t know about you guys. I’d love for them to pass info on these opportunities on to interested kids.

    $5 Fix-it Fridays?

Do we have to be members to bring things to Fix-it Friday?

Can my 8.5 year old help (with me there to help supervise of course)? And if so, do we have to pay the $25 month membership fee for him?

    Monica

  7. Simon Clark says:

Nope, fixit fridays are open to anyone. Also, the membership means you can bring family with you.
